Asus Showcases Penryn-Based Laptops

Asus showcases the company’s first notebooks based on the Intel Core 2 Duo “Penryn” processor at the ongoing 2008 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The Intel “Penryn” CPUs, produced using new 45-nanometer technology, can be found in the Asus Lamborghini Mini VX3 ultraportable, the Asus Lamborghini VX2Sn, Asus M51Sr, and F8p notebooks, and in the G70 and G1Sn gaming laptops.

It’s interesting that one of the displayed laptops - the Asus VX2Sn - features an upcoming video card from Nvidia - the GeForce 9500M.

At CES, the PC maker also showcases its first semi-rugged notebook and the R50 UMPC device.

Samsung Announces 500GB Laptop HDD

samsung_spinpoint.jpgSamsung Electronics announced this week the development of “the world’s first 500GB 2.5? hard drive that fits in the industry’s standard 9.5mm height dimension”.

Samsung’s new Spinpoint M6 500GB consists of three 166GB platters in a standard laptop HDD form factor.

Lenovo ThinkPad X61 Coming Next Month

lenovo_thinkpad.jpgLenovo ThinkPad X61 ultraportable notebooks with the new 45-nanometer Intel Core 2 Duo processor, codenamed “Penryn“, will be available starting next month, according to an announcement from Lenovo.

The refreshed Thinkpad X61 12-inch laptops will be available with the Core 2 Duo “Penryn” T8100 at 2.1GHz and T8300 at 2.4GHz, both with 3MB of L2 cache.

Acer sets the trend in TravelMate commercial notebooks

HP Compaq Business Laptops to Feature Sprint Mobile Broadband

Asus Eee PC 8G Available for Preorder

The small and affordable Eee PC 8G has an Intel’s mobile processor at 900MHz, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of Flash memory-based storage capacity, a battery life of up to 3.5 hours, and a built-in web camera.

Toshiba Portege M700 Tablet PC Announced

The size of the Toshiba Portege M700’s LED backlit display with anti-glare coating is 12.1-inch. Its resolution is 1280-by-800 (WXGA) pixels and it supports digital pen and touch screen inputs. Regarding internal components of the Intel 965 Express chipset-based Portege M700, there are an Intel Core 2 Duo processor (T7250, T7500, T7700 or T7800), the Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, up to 4GB of system memory, up to 160GB hard drive, and a built-in DVD burner, as well as an 802.11a/g/n wireless module, Gigabit Ethernet, and an optional Bluetooth receiver.

Dell XPS M1730 World of Warcraft Edition

Dell will launch a line of the XPS M1730 gaming notebooks with custom designs inspired by Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft game, NotebookReview reports.

The Dell XPS M1730 World of Warcraft Edition will have the same hardware specifications as the standard XPS M1730 notebook, which features a 17-inch display, Intel’s Core 2 Duo/Extreme processor, single or dual Nvidia GeForce graphics cards, and the AGEIA PhysX 100M physics processing unit. However, the exterior of the special edition laptop will have World of Warcraft designs along with original designs on the wings, LCD back and hinge cover reportedly. There are also exclusive original WoW artwork desktop backgrounds and screen savers.

The XPS M1730 World of Warcraft Edition laptops will start at $4,499. The expected launch date is 12/11/2007.
